NDIS 1:1 Support

Individual sessions with mental health professionals

What 1:1 support involves

Our 1:1 NDIS supports pair you with qualified mental health professionals to work on practical, real-world goals. Whether you are managing anxiety in social settings, establishing self-care routines, or navigating complex services, our team provides hands-on assistance exactly where it’s needed. Rather than just talking in an office, we work alongside you in your home or community to build strategies that overcome barriers like low motivation or social anxiety.

By focusing on the environments where your skills are actually used, we help you build genuine independence and confidence through consistent, practical action.

HOW 1:1 SUPPORT WORKS

Skills practised in real settings

Learning happens in the actual environments where you need to use skills. Support workers provide guidance and prompting as you practise, gradually reducing assistance as confidence builds.

Sessions structured around goals

Each session has a purpose connected to your broader goals. We're working toward something specific, not just spending time together without direction.

Frequency matches your capacity

Sessions might be weekly, fortnightly, or at other intervals depending on what you can manage and what your NDIS plan funds. Frequency can shift as your circumstances change.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

Questions about 1:1 support

Common questions about how 1:1 support works at HWSS.

What's the difference between 1:1 support and therapy?

1:1 support focuses on practical skill-building and daily functioning. Therapy addresses underlying mental health conditions through clinical interventions. Some HWSS staff provide both, depending on their qualifications. Your NDIS plan may fund one or both types of support under different budget categories.

Can support happen outside of business hours?

Yes! Some support can be scheduled in evenings or weekends depending on staff availability and what you're working on. If you need support during these times, mention it when discussing your needs and we'll see what's possible.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

Let us know as soon as possible. We understand that mental health symptoms can make it hard to engage on particular days. If cancellations become frequent, we'll have a conversation about whether the timing or approach needs adjusting.

Do I work with the same person each time?

Yes, you'll work with the same support worker for consistency. If that person is unavailable due to leave or other commitments, we'll let you know in advance and arrange alternative support if needed.
