Recovery Coaching

Building stability in everyday life

Navigating recovery together

Recovery Coaching focuses on the practicalities of living with an ongoing mental health condition. We help you establish structured routines, identify early triggers, and manage daily patterns - like sleep and self-care - that directly impact your wellbeing. Because mental health is rarely a linear path, our coaches provide a steady, flexible hand whether you are thriving or navigating a difficult period.

Our approach prioritises gradual capacity building without the pressure of unrealistic expectations. By focusing on small, manageable changes that reduce stress and prevent crisis, we help you implement sustainable strategies tailored to your current reality. This ensures you maintain control over your journey while building the long-term resilience needed to navigate life’s ups and downs.

HOW RECOVERY COACHING WORKS

Identifying early warning signs

You'll work with your coach to recognise the subtle changes that indicate symptoms are worsening, allowing you to respond early rather than waiting until crisis point.

Creating crisis plans

Together, we'll develop clear plans for what to do during acute periods, who to contact, what supports to activate, and how to maintain basic functioning until symptoms settle.

Building sustainable routines

We'll establish daily and weekly structures that support stability. Routines are kept simple and realistic rather than elaborate plans that collapse under pressure.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

Questions about recovery coaching

Common questions about how recovery coaching works at HWSS.

Who are recovery coaches?

Recovery Coaches at HWSS have backgrounds in mental health, disability support, peer work, or related fields. All have formal training in recovery approaches and understand psychosocial disability. Some are registered professionals like Social Workers or Mental Health Nurses. Others have extensive lived experience combined with relevant qualifications.

How is this different from general NDIS support?

General disability support workers often lack specific mental health training. Recovery Coaches understand how mental health symptoms affect functioning, what helps during acute periods, and how to support someone through setbacks without treating it as a failure or behaviour issue.

Can recovery coaching help with medication management?

Coaches can support you to maintain medication routines, attend psychiatrist appointments, and communicate concerns about medications to your doctor. They don't prescribe, adjust doses, or provide medical advice. That remains with your treating psychiatrist or GP.

What if I don't believe in recovery?

Recovery doesn't necessarily mean being symptom-free. It means building a life that feels worthwhile despite ongoing mental health challenges. If the term 'recovery' doesn't resonate, we can focus on stability, managing symptoms, or whatever language makes sense to you.
